Beef Pickle (Kerala Style Erachi Achar)
Beef pickle, locally known as Erachi Achar, is a rich and spicy Kerala delicacy made from tender beef pieces cooked and preserved in a flavorful blend of traditional spices. The beef is first cleaned, marinated with turmeric, salt, and chili powder, and then cooked and fried until slightly crispy.
It is later mixed with a fragrant masala prepared using mustard seeds, garlic, ginger, curry leaves, fenugreek, and crushed spices, all sautéed in gingelly or coconut oil. A touch of vinegar is added to give a tangy kick and to improve shelf life.
The result is a bold, aromatic pickle with spicy, tangy, and slightly smoky flavors, where each piece of beef is coated in thick, rich masala.
This pickle pairs perfectly with hot rice, kanji, dosa, appam, or chapati, making it a favorite homemade side dish across Kerala.
